Professor Tom Baird (PhD) is a mathematician with research interests in symplectic geometry and equivariant topology. He holds a BSc(H) from Queen’s University, an MSc and a PhD from the University of Toronto and spent two years completing postdoctoral research at the Fields Institute in Toronto and the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute (UK).
As an Assistant Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, he teaches several courses in pure mathematics, has the pleasure of mentoring gifted students, is a member of several committees and finds time in between to continue his research. When not in the office, he can be found presenting his work or attending a conference.
Tom’s work is funded by a 5-year NSERC discovery grant and a MUN start-up grant.
